A YES said too quickly you can’t trust at all
It usually means the opposite
Those rising hopes are only bound to fall
Setting you up to take the hit

That’s why MAYBE just may be my favorite word
Watch my spirits soar each time it’s heard

Sure, it’s not the answer I want, but at least it’s not a “No”
Most times I am so unprepared when told that it’s a go
When you hear a “no” there is no room to negotiate
Counter offers aren’t allowed and there is no debate

So MAYBE just may be my favorite word
Keep my glasses off and vision blurred

Could be it’s wrong to see the brighter side
In keeping things a bit obscure
It can wreak havoc on your fragile pride
It isn’t meant to reassure

Some might say that it’s only false hope, but there are far worse things
Positively negative words as answers really stings

So MAYBE just may be my favorite word.
