lyrics

A Lifelong Regret

He always is considering hiring a tutor
But knows that he would instantly turn into a suitor
He thinks he'd finally learn it if thrown into immersion
The best that he does now is an awful pidgin version
He wishes that he started
Learning when they said he was way too young
Attempts now are half-hearted
No matter how he tries he can't retrain his tongue

He loves the language but he still can't speak it yet
The silly accent is a thing he'll never get
A lifelong regret

Many friends are thinking they're seeing him advance
Because he keeps referring to "Frawnce" instead of France
He knows it's Notre "Dom" and it isn't Notre Dame
He wishes he was born with a Frenchy sounding name
He's saving up his money
So he can buy the course by Rosetta Stone
The outlook's not too sunny
A knack for learning fast he has never shown

He loves the language but he still can't read it yet
The crazy tenses are a thing he'll never get
A lifelong regret

Always in reach is a dictionary
English to French, like he wishes to be
As much as he can he will use the phrase vis a vis
Always in reach is a dictionary
English to French, he like he wishes to be
He's stopped saying "Yes", now he only confirms with "Oui"

He loves the language but he still can't write it yet
The crazy spelling is a thing he'll never get
A lifelong regret
